in through the rabbit hole
Japan has become well-known for its furthering advances in technology, but advancing in technology isn't always a positive thing. You see, one of the science departments in Japan were driven by some unknown motivation, and decided to see if they could create some sort of portal-type structure that could be used to teleport people or things. They would form a new type of transportation that would be quicker and more efficient, and not cause pollution to wear down the o-zone. Their project had been going along perfectly, well, until it came time to test it. A cautious, yet willing man stepped up, and said that if it were for science, he'd do it. So, stepping into the small chamber, the head of the group flipped a switch just on the outside of the device.
"How do you feel?" Nakamura, the head of the group, asked. And so, the willing human guinea pig replied, "I feel a bit funny... sort of tin--" and it was at that point, a flash blinded the room, and the scientist was gone. Just about when they were about to call his cellphone to see where he had ended up, there was a large crackle of electricity rushing through the various machines in the room, sourcing from the teleporter. The took cover, waiting for it to past. As soon as the electricity was done spreading through the room, the teleporter gave off a mass explosion, injuring the scientists close to it and bringing the wall that teleporter was on down. As if on instinct, Nakamura quickly dialed the number of the now-missing scientist, but as soon as his call was connected, he heard that familiar voice saying, "I'm sorry. The number you are trying to dial is either turned off, or out of the service range."
The next day, the incident was on the news. It covered everything it could about the explosion, the teleporter, and the scientist that was testing it. Just a week later, the man's wife filed a missing person's report on him, and soon, all blame was shifted towards Nakamura. Suspicions aroused about the whole case being murder. He denied all accusations, but the entire situation put a large damper on his life at the time. His wife wanted a divorce because she believed that he was a murderer, and his twin children were starting to believe the accusations as well. So, one night, he gave into his depression and ended up at a bar in Kyoto called "Sinner's Grin". After drowning himself in his misery and quite a few mugs of alcohol, he was thrown out. And just when he felt all was lost for him, he was stunned by a bright light.
After the light had dissipated and his eyes were adjusted again, he couldn't believe what he saw. There, lying on the ground, panting heavily, was the scientist that had disappeared for a week! Not asking questions yet, he grabbed him, pulled him up, and took him back to his own home. His wife was out at some book club and his children were safely tucked into their beds, so they didn't take note of the man's arrival. Letting him take a seat on the couch, he asked him where the hell he had been. And so, the man progressed into a story some people might be even too afraid to believe. He told a tale of how he had been in a different world, and he was in a lot of danger because it was in the middle of a war. He had taken refuge in a place that was called "Lucynene", and there, he was approached by a group of people. They almost killed him on sight, but when he explained his dilemma, they ultimately had believed him.
After they had given him food, they told him about their world. It was called Earth, like their own world, but it had different countries in provinces. Apparently, the two main countries, Eradius and Lucynene, had started a full scale war on each other, and that was why he had almost been killed on sight. They had suspected he was an enemy. So, after feeding him and taking care of him for a week, they took him to meet someone. This someone was a man who had been exiled from the military ranks of Lucynene, and then exiled from Eradius itself. They explained to him that he was only shunned because of his brutal tactics when it came to fighting, and training. They felt he was a danger of turning on his leader. He was shunned for the same reason in Eradius, but there, he was the royal guard for the Royal Family. They believed he would hurt their child.
With that, he explained, he was afraid of meeting him, but once he met him, he learned that this man could help him get back. This man had taken a piece of equipment from Eradius' army, and advanced it. Originally, it had been able to let people teleport over short distances, but with a lot of tweaking and modifications, it was able to cross over to other universes. He could easily work on more, so he gave it to him. And that was how he had gotten back there. The next day, Nakamura held a conference on television and told everyone of this occurrence. No one believed him though, and when they saw the scientist that had gone missing agreeing with him, they just believed that he had been drugged. They should have believed them, because back in the other universe, Eradius had learned of the man's scientific furthering, and raided his home. They took the newly modified devices, and used them to their advantage.
Now, they are able to cross over to the normal Earth, and with that power, they've been kidnapping people that would make good use for their army. Lucynene, on the other hand have been trying to return people back, saying that it was unfair to get other-worldly people caught up in their problems. As they fight, a third party in Byziatand are forming. The man who had tweaked the devices has also joined up with them, declaring himself as a chaotic neutral. This is a group of renegade people, some of them taking the beliefs of Eradius, and others taking the beliefs of Lucynene. It doesn't matter, because they are a group entirely on their own against the other two, either fighting them, or helping them. This group goes between their world, and the normal world frequently, taking willing people for their group, and some not-so-willing. The people back in the other universe who are only victims in this, had found out about this other world, finally believing the scientists. They've claimed they've been to that world, some even brought back their own devices so they can go anytime. But could this be a problem for the war?
